Become a Referee

Officiating is a great way to stay close to the game, support youth hockey in your community, and earn extra income on a schedule that works for you. New officials are always welcome — USA Hockey provides the training and certification, and we'll help you find your footing.

How it works

    Register with USA Hockey

    Registration typically opens in early summer. Create your USA Hockey membership account and save your confirmation number — you'll need it for the next step.

    Get credentialed as an official

    Register as an official for the season, then finish the online modules, attend a seminar, and pass the open-book exam.

    Get on the ice

    Once certified, you can start working games at rinks throughout West Michigan.
